Hello everyone! What a beautiful day in Eyjafjörður! We sailed out in windy weather, but the weather god much calmer after we passed Hjalteyri and the sun even came out.
We encountered three Humpback Whales just north east of Hrísey. One of them was only seen in the beginning of the encounter, but we clearly saw three flukes being lifted for their deep dives. The other two whales resurfaced calmly in the area around our boat, one of time they came up for a breath directly next to us, one of them was only a few meters away! We could see them super well and even spot their flippers underwater!
In our last encounter, one of these Humpback Whales showed us its flipper, lifting it out of the water, almost as if the whale waved goodbye just before we returned back to Akureyri.
We are so excited to go out again in search of the next whale encounters tomorrow!
