Hello everyone, today we had cloudy skies with occasional showers in the morning and continuous rain in the afternoon. But this weather did not prevent us from enjoying the day and the whales. And we found exactly 4 humpback whales in the south of Hrisey. We couldn't decide which one was more beautiful and which one we should watch. :-) We even had a close-up view a couple of times, when two whales surfaced right next to the ship and in front of it. Our guests could see in detail the head on which these whales have bumps, which are called "tubercles." And these fist-sized bumps contain one hair follicle each, connected to a set of sensitive nerves. Yes, even whales have hair:-) In the afternoon, we managed to find a humpback whale that performed an amazing jump not far from the ship. And then it appeared to us several more times. On our tours we also saw harbor porpoises and many birds such as Black Guillemot, Northern Fulmar, Arctic Tern and Kittiwake. What for amazing day. I am very excited about what we will see on our tours tomorrow.
