What a great day of sightings out on the fjord!
The morning started cloudy but with a perfect sea state for spotting cetaceans. Our RIB came across a minke whale just outside of the harbour before continuing onwards to have some incredible encounters with humpback whales. We were lucky enough to see a humpback whale which was showing unihemispheric slow-wave sleeping in which half the brain will go into a state of rest whilst the other half is still conscious and functioning. We also had a very active whale which was circling both our RIBs and our larger vessels.
In the afternoon we were treated to even more amazing interactions and our crew onboard Ambassador were able to catch a minke whale breaching multiple times! We were lucky to be joined once again by our lively humpback who demonstrated some lovely spy hopping and pectoral displays before the whale decided to have a sleep and showed us logging behaviour.
We were also joined by a variety of bird life such as puffins, common guillemots, arctic terns and northern fulmars.
A fantastic day to be out on the fjord and a lovely end to the week!
