We sailed out in a snowy fjord today, with calm weather conditions. It soon stopped snowing and the visibility improved.
Shortly after sailing out, we spotted our two Humpback Whales just outside the small boat harbor of Akureyri. They surfaced extremely frequently and were even lunge feeding again!
After spending some time with the Humpbacks, we had a close look at the warm waterfall and then sailed out just a little bit further north, where we spotted a Northern Bottlenose Whale! This was absolutely thrilling, as they are not seen here in Eyjafjörður very often, especially in the winter. We were more than excited to see this individual surface close to our boat, circling us as if to check us out.
On our way back to Akureyri, we spotted a pod of Harbor Porpoises as well as the two Humpback Whales once again. They kept surface feeding and resurfaced also directly in front of our boat!
Wow! What a tour. We were left speechless and with many stunning memories of this day.
