The temperatures have dropped in the night deep below 0°C. In some parts of the Icelandic highlands, it was an unbelievable -30°C early in the morning. Mist is lying low barely touching the horizon and sunrise this morning was just breathtaking. The brackish waters which surround our harbour in these extremely cold conditions conjured a decent layer of ice overnight. This cold brings no wind and a nearly cloudless sky. Ducks confusingly walk around on the new ice sheet as this early in the season it is surprising even for them to deal with a full winter mode.

Due to this, we had to cancel our express tours for today, as it is unsafe to make our way through the frozen parts of the fjord. The sun is shining with a lot of power, yet it is not enough to melt the danger away. Classic tours are intact and we will keep you updated on what we have seen this morning after Konsúll (our classic boat) comes back from this cold, but magically beautiful morning journey.

We saw many Whales in the area around Hauganes on both tours. Here we saw around 10 Humpback Whales with that number increasing to perhaps 20 in our expanded vision. In this area, there was also one Minke Whale and numerous Harbour Porpoises throughout. Because of the conditions, we were able to have much time with our engine off and as a result, had some great encounters.
