Let’s start with a little small talk window. The weather is decent today, bit warmer than in the previous days and we have nearly no wind with many clouds, the fjord feels nice and calm and the whales are also seemingly relaxed.

We took our boats out in the morning and observed 4 Humpback whales scattered around the area located south of Hjalteyri. It has been a very serene scenery out there, the atmosphere of the fjord at this moment is inducing a feeling that all this wild nature is there just for you and no one else. It has been a good day so far.

Afternoon update:
The day turned out to be completely unforgettable and I am not exaggerating here. We were getting almost past Hjalteyri when we saw a tail from the far, as we arrived, it turned out to be not only 1 whale, but 4 Humpback Whales again, this time three of them in a very close aggregation swimming and diving together. We had stopped the boat and the whales kept surfacing extremely close to us. It was pretty cool because we were idle and they did not care about our presence at all. Later they separated and two of them travelled south in the meantime. We had to turn back slowly and we decided to have one more look at those that were more south on our way to Akureyri around Gásir.

From the far, we saw two blows and then one of those Humpback whales started to pull the big show for us, over a dozen of tail throws, some tail lobbing and boom a breach, 360° spin out of water to top this incredibly lucky tour that we have had. (It happened right after a deep dive, so nobody expected it, but some of our passengers managed to film it on their phones!)
