Moderate southern wind that switched to northerly in the afternoon. Light rain and, low, 100% cloud cover.

Pollurinn - 1 Minke Whale, Hjalteyri - 3 Humpback Whales, Gljáin - 7-8 Humpback Whales.

Included in today’s blog are pictures of a Humpback seen swimming in a pair near Hauganes. As can be seen in the pictures, the whale has a serious past injury most likely from coming into contact with a boat propeller. This is a whale known to us ‘Tough Pella’ and it suffered this injury several years ago. The whale seems to swim well and the scars have healed over nicely, however, probably not what you would expect to see on your idyllic whale watching tour. Yet, this kind of injury is not a rare sight in our fjord and despite the sadness around the situation, its presence serves as an excellent reminder and vivid example of the largest threat facing these animals - boat strikes and fishing gear entanglements.
