Today’s weather conditions were calm and overcast, with a little wind picking up throughout the day.
As we sailed out, we spotted one pod of Harbor Porpoises around the green buoy. Further north, we encountered two of our known Humpback Whales: Piccolo and Aretha Frankfin. At first, they were swimming together east of Hjalteyri. As we stayed to watch them, they spread out a bit and ended up surfacing each by themselves. We saw them resurface numerous times and had some beautifully close encounters with them! It’s always fun to recognize some of the whales we see in the fjord.
On the way back to Akureyri, we very briefly spotted one Minke Whale in the distance by Gásir.
