Hello whale enthusiasts,
We began our day with some overcast weather, but we are glad the rain from yesterday is over! We managed to stay dry all day and the sun even came out in the afternoon. In the morning, we only had to go a little north of Svalbardseyri before we started to see cetacean activity. We spotted the blows early on and then were treated to 5 Humpback Whales as well as a Minke Whale all in the same small area. We stayed in this area for the whole tour and enjoyed the group of whales.
The afternoon brought a bit of excitement as we saw some very cool behaviour quite close to us— a tail throw! This whale only did it once without warning, but one of our Naturalists DP, was able to capture it on camera! He said he just “had a feeling” and had his camera ready at the right moment. His whaley senses were tingling.
A great day to end the week on, with tons of whales, and lots of nice dives showing flukes close to the boats.
