We started the day departing from a very cold Akureyri but that didn’t stop us from having the most beautiful morning. The fjord was completely flat, and the sun started coming out in between the clouds.
Everything was very peaceful, and the sail was amazing. North of Green Buoy all changed. We started seeing multiple blows. Our first encounter was with 2 Humpback Whales, but one of them was not so fond of the company because it kept trumpeting towards the 2nd Humpback. After observing these two gentle giants for a while we sailed a bit more to the Northeast of the green buoy, where we found 3 more Humpback Whales. These three were just swimming around by themselves, looking as majestic as ever.
In the afternoon, we were lucky enough to encounter these 5 beauties again, in addition to a sneaky Minke Whale. You may be wondering… How curious it is that sometimes we will find the Humpback Whales in the same spot during the afternoon right?
The truth is that we need to look for them every time we go out, but the time to migrate towards warmer waters is getting close. So to prepare for the migration, they will stay for a couple of days where the food is, which is why they can be found roughly in the same area.
