A Magical Whale Watching Experience on a Cold Winter Day
Today, we set sail in temperatures of -10°C, with a light breeze and a perfectly clear sky. The cold mist hung low over the water, creating a mysterious, almost otherworldly atmosphere. It felt like we were entering a different realm, where time slowed down and the peaceful quiet of nature took over.
As we sailed further out, the sunrise painted the mountain peaks in stunning shades of orange, lighting up the world around us. It was the kind of scene that felt too perfect to be real—like something out of a dream.
Our day on the water quickly turned into an unforgettable experience. We started to notice the first signs of whales: a blow here, another there—and then even more. Before we knew it, we had about eight humpback whales in the area, surfacing and diving with graceful ease. And we could spot even more blows in the distance.
When we reached the spot where the blows were most frequent, we slowed down and waited. Patience is key in these moments because you never know when a whale will surface. Then, as if by magic, I heard the deep, powerful exhale of a whale, followed by another—and another. It was mesmerizing. The whales came so close to the boat it felt almost unreal. You could see their massive bodies and imagine just how enormous they really are. It was an awe-inspiring sight.
They surfaced regularly, almost every five minutes, giving us plenty of chances to admire their beauty. It felt like they were putting on a show for us, coming so close we could almost reach out and touch them. Some swam beneath the boat and emerged on the other side, as if they were just as curious about us as we were about them.
The experience was made even more magical when we witnessed the Humpback whales blowing on the sunrise side. The sunlight caught the mist in the blow, creating a dazzling display of colors that added to the already special atmosphere. It felt like we were witnessing a rare, beautiful moment in nature—something you only get to experience once in a lifetime.
It was an incredible, unforgettable day on the water. I left with a full heart, knowing I had shared a moment with some of the most magnificent creatures on Earth. The memory of those gentle giants will stay with us forever.
