Today, we sailed out into the crisp, clear winter air, the sun shining bright and the temperature hovering around a chilly -6°C. There was almost no wind, and the water was so calm it felt more like a serene lake than the open sea. It was the perfect day for an adventure, and it didn’t take long before we had our first exciting sighting.

Just a few minutes into our journey, we spotted Piccolo, the humpback whale. As usual, Piccolo was busy feeding, coming up for just a quick breath before diving back down to fill its belly. What followed was a truly spectacular show for our guests.

As Piccolo resurfaced to feed, we got a clear look at its massive head and the ventral grooves along its body—those deep, distinctive lines that help the whale expand its mouth as it scoops up its meals. It’s always incredible to see how much these giants can stretch their jaws while feeding. The whale’s pectoral fin emerged from the water, followed by a glimpse of its fluke—truly a breathtaking sight.

We were lucky enough to witness this behavior several times, giving everyone onboard a fantastic view of the whale in action. Watching Piccolo move gracefully through the water, feeding and surfacing, was nothing short of mesmerizing. It was a magical experience, and our guests were thrilled.

After spending some quality time with Piccolo, we made our way over to Pollurinn Harbor to check out a Bearded seal resting on the ice. The little seal looked so peaceful and cute, a perfect way to wrap up our adventure on the water.

But I wasn’t the only one trying to get a great shot of the seal. My colleague, Cheyenne, was capturing some amazing photos from the front of the office. And you’ve got to see what she got—one of the shots perfectly captured the seal showing off its teeth. It was such a unique and funny moment to capture, and Cheyenne did an incredible job snapping that perfect shot.

It was one of those days that you can’t help but feel incredibly lucky to experience. With Piccolo feeding so close and a peaceful seal to cap it all off, it felt like nature had given us the best of everything. It’s hard to imagine a better day on the water—truly unforgettable.
