There was a gorgeous sunrise over Akureyri this morning and we got to see it from the boat! We sailed in good weather conditions today, with the wind picking up a bit throughout the afternoon.
Today, we spotted Piccolo the Humpback Whale just north of Akureyri during our morning tour. It slowly made its way into Pollurinn, our main harbor area, where we spotted it again on our afternoon tour. We had amazing encounters on both tours, seeing the Humpback Whale up close plenty of times. Once we even saw lunge feeing! The whale lunged out of the water surface with an open mouth, actively feeding in Pollurinn! Simply amazing behavior to witness.
Sailing further north, we also briefly spotted Harbor Porpoises north of Svalbarðseyri!
We had a great day on the water today and had beautiful encounters with the wildlife in our fjord.
