Today was one of those perfect days out on the water—cool, crisp, and full of unexpected wonders. The temperature hovered around 4°C, with a gentle south wind guiding us along the journey. The waves were calm and small, making for a smooth sailing experience as we headed out from the northern side of Hrísey.
As we made our way out, the captain's sharp eyes spotted something incredible—a humpback whale close to the boat, heading south. We couldn’t resist the temptation to follow its majestic journey. The whale appeared every five minutes, popping up briefly to show us its fluke before diving back down into the depths of the sea. We were fortunate enough to witness this pattern for a while, and the sight of it was simply breathtaking.
After some time, the humpback whale stayed submerged for nearly 25 minutes, leaving us wondering where it had gone. But the allure of the ocean kept us moving, as we had to make our way back to the harbor. On the return journey, we were lucky enough to see the whale two more times—each appearance just as mesmerizing as the last.
It was a beautiful day on the water, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the creature's grace and power. A memory like this will last a lifetime, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store. The ocean always has a way of surprising you when you least expect it.
